Ah the age old Cricket Bat heartwood question….
It is harder more and bit more brittle then the sap wood as the moisture is moving out and into the sapwood, the whiter bits in the bat.
It will more then likely have more grains if there is heartwood present…. Having more grains generally means it will last slightly less time but come to life quick and die quicker.
Benefits in having heartwood is it is slightly stiffer due to less mositure so potentially better ping but it is brittle.
What do people think of it!
Some people say have it on the inside edge, some say outside edge it depends which one you hit most….. I’m on the stiffer and better ping side of things!
Often bats are graded down because they have heartwood in. Same as any bat if looked after properly it should last just need a little extra fussing over edge tape, protective facing etc
Some of the stuff written about Heartwood in Cricket bats is absolute bunkem’ by the way!!!!
